Inspired by the glass "gelatinas" once used to protect the floors of Mexican homes, the Vela Gelatina reimagines a nostalgic utilitarian object as a vessel for light. The base is solid glass molded into the classic "gelatina" shape (named for its resemblance to the fluted gelatin desserts found in every market). The sphere, handblown borosilicate glass, holds lamp oil and a fiberglass wick, creating an endlessly refillable and enduring candle.

On a dining table, it creates an intimate, flickering atmosphere; on a bookshelf, it acts as a glass sculpture that catches the daylight. Lit or unlit, the Vela Gelatina is a whimsical art object.
